Don’t Pay to Borrow E-Books. Your Public Library Gives You Access for FREE!

frugal-informer-free-ebooksDo you love to read books?  Do you love to be able to read them on your e-reader or tablet?  You may have heard of companies like Oyster, Scribd or a little company named Amazon that will eagerly sell you an all-you-can-read monthly subscription to read their e-book collections.  But did you know that there is a place that has a more extensive e-book collection you can access… for FREE?  That place is your public library.

For many years public library systems have been working on building their e-book collections and you will find that there are e-books that you won’t find on the pay sites.  Sure there are due dates and sometime waiting queues as when you borrow physical library books, but hey, it’s free and there’s tons to choose from. The Pima County Library System is no exception.  If you haven’t check it out for ebooks, yet, do it now!

Try Out the New Sun Link Streetcar for FREE

Well, it’s now up and running and ready for passengers.  Go see what this streetcar system is all about and take a FREE ride on the new Sun Link.  This weekend, July 25-27, Sun Link will be offering free rides to everyone.  Maybe if the fancy strikes you, try a new restaurant or shop downtown or on 4th Avenue. It may even be something fun to do with small kids. If you normally use SunTran in the Downtown area, try out the streetcar and see how the whole public transit shebang connects with each other.

Your Public Library Offers Free Online Movies

But did you know that you can access a boatload of movies ONLINE via the library’s website and IndieFlix.  IndieFlix offers over 4000 award-winning shorts, features, documentaries, and series on demand, similar to Netflix or Hulu–but without the cost.  You can even access the content on your Roku, XBox, or Zinio.

To get started, all you have to do is create an IndieFlix account with your library card number via the Pima County Library website and voila!

Loft Cinema Kids Fest Kicks Off at Trail Dust Town, Friday July 18th- FREE

The Loft Cinema kicks off it’s 8th Annual Loft Kids Fest on Friday, July 18th at Trail Dust Town.  The event is FREE and starts at 5:30pm.

Trail Dust Town is located at 6541 E. Tanque Verde Rd. (west of Kolb Rd.)

The Loft Cinema Loft Kids Fest invites children and their parents to experience some of the best family-friendly films of all-time, along with a fabulous animated short before every feature! There’s also fun games, hands-on activities, live performances, great giveaways, tons-o-free-popcorn and crazy surprises. And best of all, it’s FREE!

To celebrate the kick-off of the 2014 Loft Kids Fest, Trail Dust Town will have free live children’s music by the One Man Train children’s band, a Wild West stunt show, a circus inspired performance by Cirque Roots, a magician, animal encounters with Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption and the Sonoran Desert Museum, crafts and activities with the Western Institute for Leadership Development and the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona, movie music with Tucson Music Therapy, the Tucson Arts Brigade will be doing face painting and you can walk the yellow brick road to meet the Wizard of Oz! Plus, Trail Dust Town will be offering unlimited amusements and Wild West stunt shows with the purchase of an $8 wristband. 50% of wristband sales benefit The Loft Cinema!

FREE – Movies In the Park on Fridays

Tucson Free Movies in the Park Summer 2014
It’s summertime and even though the days are brutal, the evenings are comfortable.  Why not spend a Friday evening with your family or friends watching a movie in the park?

Cox Communications sponsors these movie screenings and invites area residents to bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a free movie. There will also be free family friendly activities, beginning at 5:30pm prior to each movie including live music, jumping castles, balloon twisters, and arts and crafts, and exhibits from area non-profits.  Food will be available from vendors.

LOCATION:  Reid Park, Demeester Performing Arts Pavilion,  900 S. Randolf Way, 85716
(Located in Gene C. Reid Park, on the Northeast corner of Country Club and 22nd Street.  Attendees can gain access to the Movies by entering off of Country Club Road.)

Market on the Move it coordinated by The 3000 Club and they work to salvage produce that goes unsold to stores and saves is from being dumped in a landfill.  You get a box full of produce goodness that has enough to share with your family, neighbors or friends.  And that’s the point.
